First Night Out
We had our first night out last weekend. Some friends of ours offered to stay here with Asher so that we could go out and have a bit of a date. We decided we’d be crazy if we didn’t take advantage of the offer, but we hadn’t left Asher with anyone yet, so there was a little anxiety going into the evening. Since we’ve gotten him on a schedule, his bedtimes are (more) predictable… nonetheless, we were worried he would wake up screaming at some point.
I guess it’s sort of cliché to say that parents can get a little crazy when it comes to leaving their kids for the first time… and with that said, I can’t think of anything more appropriate than this “Friends” clip, which pretty much sums up the whole experience. This is Rachel and Ross’ first time to go out and leave their daughter, Emma, with someone (Ross’ mom)… as they’re getting ready to go, they accidentally lock themselves out of the apartment with Emma still inside, hilarity ensues (those of you with iPhones can watch it here):

Anyways, back to our date… I made a reservation at a place we like, and we got ready for our big night out, which was just dinner, but still… it felt like a big night out. When we got to the restaurant, Candice said that she wished our little camera rig would work away from home so we could see him while we were out (she claims she only wanted to watch him for a second)… I said that this basically defeated the purpose of getting out of the house and going on a date! We had a great time and laughed a lot. We talked a little bit about Asher, but I was glad that we still had other stuff to talk about as well.
It was sort of like old times again, back when it was just the two of us and we did whatever the heck we wanted… oh how times have changed :). Having the night out was fun, but by about 9:30 we were both ready to call it a night… when you’re used to going to bed at 9 and you know you’re going to have to get up at 3am, staying out late just doesn’t sound as good as sleeping.
