Happy 'Versary!

Today was our seventh wedding anniversary! It was an especially fun day because we got to plan our date with one particularly awesome truth in mind: we have a car! It was our first time to plan something in a while where we weren’t thinking, “How long would that take to cycle there?” And, gentlemen, as you can imagine, it kind of spoils the fun of taking your woman out for a night on the town when all you’ve got is a Schwinn. So with our new-found freedom, we ventured outside of Cambridge and drove about 20 minutes (quite a lot by UK standards) to the restaurant we had picked out online. It was perfect :)! A nice scenic spot overlooking the river; peaceful and beautiful. Also, the inside was cozy and quaint; in fact, we both walked in and thought we were in a pottery barn store (pictures below to prove it)!

I’m so glad we got to have an awesome anniversary dinner at a fun place. The food was fantastic: a nice three-course meal featuring a Mediterranean themed appetizer with feta, olives, hummus, pita bread, etc., then a first course of stuffed mushrooms for Candice and pan seared scallops over sweet potatoes for Collin. And that’s not including the main dishes! Needless to say, we were stuffed, but very happy, when we left the restaurant.

The best part about it was that I got to eat dinner with my best friend in the whole world. I told Candice today that even though getting to the seven-year mark is a huge accomplishment in some sense… in another sense, it’s really not. People usually think of an accomplishment as something that took a great deal of work to achieve… being married to Candice is pretty easy and fun.

On the other hand, I do feel like we’ve achieved something over the last seven years. We’ve managed to like each other more now than when we started, and we’ve figured out how to do so many everyday things in life as a team. We made spaghetti the other night in about 5 minutes. We didn’t really talk or discuss the various parts of the meal… we just walked into the kitchen, Candice said, “Spaghetti?”, and off we went playing out what looked  like a well-rehearsed performance of synchronized stirring, chopping, pouring, and seasoning.

We’ve probably made spaghetti about a hundred times over the last seven years, and it’s still way more fun to do it together than alone… which is pretty much the way it is with everything else as well.
